Ayotte and ICE
To Governor Ayotte,
You are a big disappointment.
Your answers to the news of an ICE facility in Merrimack is wasted political jargon. E.g., “she told federal authorities that Merrimack should be consulted about potential plans to build … [a] detention facility in the town, given the potential impacts the facility could have on facets of town life like traffic and emergency services.”
We ask in reply, how about impacts of an ethical nature? Impacts of an illegal nature? Impacts of a simply reprehensible nature? Especially in a state whose motto is “Live Free or Die”.
You also hedged by saying:
“I made quite clear both to the Department of Homeland Security as well as to the White House that I thought it was critical that there be full information provided to Merrimack,”
You should simply have said …
Merrimack and New Hampshire will do everything in our power to keep ICE and any ICE facilities, employees and/or federal staff supporting same, out of our state. We also do not endorse ANY ICE facilities being built in any other U.S. state, nor any of our New Hampshire residents tax money being used to fund any ICE facility in this state or, for that matter, any other site in the United States.
Really Ms. Ayotte. Shame on you for pandering to the forces in this administration.
