Police are investigating the death of a child at a South End residence on Friday morning.

A heavy police presence grew mid-morning outside a duplex on Dakin Street, a residential neighborhood between Broadway and South Main streets. The deceased individual was a juvenile male, police said Friday afternoon. The call had come from a relative in the house as an “unattended death” at 7:55 a.m.

“This incident remains under investigation,” police said in a statement. “There is no danger to the public related to this incident.”

Little other information was released about the situation, including the age of the boy. On Friday morning, detectives went house-to-house asking neighbors if they’d seen anything out of the ordinary on Thursday night or Friday morning and sought potential security or doorbell footage.

The Attorney General’s office investigates homicides in the state. According to a spokesman, the department is not involved in this case.

The death occurred at 15-17 Dakin Street, a duplex that city records indicate is a rental property. Police said they don’t expect to release further information until Monday.

“This is a traumatic incident for all involved,” Acting Police Chief Barrett Moulton said in an email to the Monitor.
