Frost heaving climate

Why are our local roads reminiscent of a “ride the rapids,” or a roller coaster ride at Canobie Lake Park? It was fun at first, but is getting old pretty quickly.

Our rapidly-warming New Hampshire climate has ironically brought us more-frequent freeze-thaw cycles, and those have brought us some of the rolling-est roads on record. So what? Besides being a rough ride, the frost heaves break pavement and can wear out springs and shocks. Both cost money to repair. And this is only the tip of the climate change iceberg: Others have written about the negative impacts of climate change on our state public health, agriculture, infrastructure, tourism and recreation. In other words, unmitigated climate change has large and growing hidden costs that we don’t want.

What to do? Support those politicians who are in favor of transitioning New Hampshire energy supplies to clean, less-expensive, climate-friendly, renewable power!
