Mary E. Souther

Concord, NH – Mary E. Souther (Deragon), 93, passed away February 12, 2026 at Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, NH.

Mary was born in Franklin, NH on January 5, 1933 to Albert Deragon and Ruby (Leavitt) Deragon.

She attended school in Bristol where she met the love of her life Hartley B. Souther. They were married on June 17, 1951 in Bristol at The First Congregational Church. They were married for 57 years until Hartley’s passing in 2008.

Mary was a devoted mother to their three sons. She loved crafts and was an excellent seamstress and kept meticulous books at Souther’s Market. She volunteered at Concord Hospital and taught Sunday School at the Congregational Church in Concord.

Our family has wonderful memories of the family camp on Lake Winnisquam and skiing at King Ridge in New London.

When Hartley sold the family store he and Mary partnered up, purchased an RV and traveled across the United States and portions of Canada, missing only Hawaii. When they weren’t on the road you would most likely find them up at the camp. It was a well known fact to family members that if Mary & Hartley were in the lake for a swim after dark clothing was likely optional.

Mary was predeceased by her parents and husband Hartley B Souther. She was also predeceased by her siblings: Albert Cross, Jr, Richard Deragon, Raymond Deragon, Robert Deragon, Sally Nichols, Claire Cross, and Evelyn Corneau.

She is survived by her children: Peter (Robin) Souther of Kittery, ME; Charles (Diane) Souther of Concord, NH; and Michael (Arlene) Souther of Loudon, NH; her grandchildren: Pearson, Alexandra, Erin, Kevin, Colleen and Kaitlin as well as eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Merrimack County Nursing home who gave compassionate and loving care to our mother.

A graveside service will be held later in the spring at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen where she will be laid to rest with Hartley.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mary’s name to The Concord Professional Firefighters, 50 Bradley St., Concord, NH 03301.
