Scott Doherty, the current chair of the Canterbury Board of Selectmen, is running unopposed for his position. Voters will cast their ballots on March 10 at the Old Town Hall. Town Meeting will take place on March 13 at 7 p.m. at Canterbury Elementary School.
The Monitor sent questionnaires to all Select Board and School Board candidates running in towns within our coverage area.
What is your occupation or experience?
Doherty: I recently retired, I was a Bureau Chief at the NH Fire Academy.
Why are you running and what do you see as the most pressing issues in town?
Doherty: I am running for reelection because I want to continue to serve my town. I have decades of experience working with budgets in state and municipal government. I have worked in leadership roles in public safety for over 30 years. I have a bachelorโs degree in Business Management and Economics and a Master of Public Administration degree (MPA). The most pressing issue in our town is how to keep taxes increases to a minimum while continuing to provide services to our residents. Many of our residents are on fixed incomes.
What do you hope to accomplish if you are elected?
Doherty: I hope to continue serving the residents of Canterbury by addressing our residentโs concerns and being a good fiscal manager.
