Each morning when I get to work, I immediately reach for the mug that lives on my desk. I have a selection of teabags I choose from, depending on whether I’m feeling something more fruit-flavored or Earl Grey. Mug in hand, I head to the hot water dispenser in our kitchen, drop the tea bag of choice into the bottom of the mug and watch the hot water fill the depths.
It’s nice to hold something warm while I work, to sip on tea as I dive into my writing. This morning ritual helps guide me through my day. No matter what comes, it’s certain I can be found with my mug nearby. It’s comforting, consistent. I change up the flavors depending on how I’m feeling, but a day without tea, for me, really isn’t a day at all.
We all have rituals. At home, at work, with our friends and loved ones. Some people practice the “weekend reset” while others seek adventure at every turn. Rituals look different for everyone.
Whatever your weekend rituals might be, see if you can’t shake things up a little bit and make room for something new while holding on to whatever the equivalent of tea drinking is for you.
Look to the ideas below for fun weekend activities to share with your family and friends.
Check out the Young Inventors Club Showcase at the Hopkinton Town Library on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 – 5 p.m. See what the bright youth in the community have come up with! That same evening, the library is hosting a wetlands program in partnership with the Hopkinton Conservation Commission called “Peepers, Pollywogs, Pools and Ponds.” Learn more about the importance of wetlands and how to protect them. This program takes place at 6:30 p.m.
Throughout the weekend, Red River Theaters will be screening “EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert.” There are showings at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and at 1:45 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The screening also runs into next week, so check out redrivertheatres.org for more information.
Venture to the Blasty Bough Brewing Company in Epsom on Friday night for live music by Fódhla & Ellery Klein. “Fódhla brings both high energy and stellar artistry to the traditional music stage,” the brewery writes. “The trio’s sound is firmly rooted in the traditional Irish melodies and ornamentation that fiddler Ellery Klein and flute player Nicole Rabata honed during years spent abroad in Ireland’s cities Cork, Limerick and Ennis. Fiddle and flute tunes are superbly supported by guitarist Bethany Waickman, whose inventive, tasteful chords unfold with driving rhythm perfected from years of playing for contradances.”
Sounds like a great evening to me! Music begins at 7 p.m. Visit www.blastybough.com/blastytrad for more information.
The Concord Arts Market will be at Kimball Jenkins on Saturday for HeARTwork, a spring series of market shows from February through April. Stop by between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., chat with artisans from the area and seize the opportunity to shop local! Each month of the series has a theme: Heart, Sol and Life. March’s theme is Sol, or sun. And perfect timing, too, with clocks changing on Sunday.
We’ll be losing an hour but gaining light at the end of our days from now until the fall! Whatever you do this weekend, have a lovely time and take a moment to recharge as we approach spring.
