Just the facts
I’m writing to urge anyone with any interest in or concern about New Hampshire’s public education funding to pay a visit to the online resource identified in Wednesday’s Monitor article “Plan pitches new funding model.” The website allows anyone a very easy snapshot of how a state-wide “3-3” tax, 3% income and 3% property, would affect them. Rather than rant against or argue in favor of a new model for supporting public education, you can see exactly how a change would affect you.
For decades, school funding has been an issue in our state, an embarrassment, a burden, a politicized flag to wave. Now, thanks to some serious work, all of us can actually understand what might be involved in adopting a plan to benefit a vital state service.
On a side note, perhaps someone could set up a similar website to demonstrate what a wasteful drain the Education Freedom Accounts are … but that’s another conversation for another day.
I urge everyone not to go the Gov. Ayotte way and protest, “Absolutely not … not now, not never.” Go look at the website. Consider the facts. Many, many thanks to those who have made this tool so accessible. It’s a brilliantly useful application of the web.
