Political integrity
Socialism or fascism? Apparently, those are the only choices left in our crumbling democracy. What happened to the moderate politicians in both parties? Polls show that Americans thirst for moderating tone in the delivery of government. Instead, we have politicians on the far left that have grandiose plans that are not fiscally responsible and are socially questionable. On the far right, we have anarchist libertarians calling for political assassination and republicans, as a whole, seeming to embrace dishonesty. Third party politics just muddy the water in elections and aren’t viable options, at least for now.
Why has moderate politics cratered in our country? Its partly because of campaign contributions of extremist groups, lobbyists and companies. Media outlets (Fox, CNN) haven’t helped either. If a person wants to have a future in either party, they are told they must be an agent of chaos. Moderates are discouraged in both parties from running for office. Its time to make public service appealing again to those who are true patriots and love their country. We currently have politicians that are just unbearable to watch.
The following actions could help steer the country in a more hopeful direction:
Congressional and Supreme Court term limits, reversing Citizens United decision, putting caps on party campaign spending, keeping the border closed and implementing pathways for nonviolent immigrants to pursue legal status, ending fighting wars for other countries, end tariffs and no new taxes and, most importantly, instilling honesty and integrity back into public service.
