Cystic fibrosis drugs are too expensive

In your lovely tribute to my late friend Dr. Brian O’Sullivan, you reported that he was “a leading force in getting Vertex Pharmaceuticals to reduce the cost of its breakthrough cystic fibrosis drug Trikafta from more than $300,000 a year to a fraction of that amount.” If only!

Though Brian was a fierce advocate for the interests of his CF patients, and was tireless in his criticism of Vertex for its bloated prices, Trikafta remains as expensive as ever. The quest to cure cystic fibrosis continues but, meanwhile, as a CF dad, my biggest worry is that the cost of the specialty care one needs to thrive with CF will become too expensive for my daughter to afford when my health insurance plan is no longer available to her in 18 months when she turns 26.

Brian O’Sullivan was great doctor and a good friend; his courage and principle will continue to inspire me, rest assured.
