Concord , NH – James (Jim) Michael Sebold, 87, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, at his home in Concord, New Hampshire, with family by his side.
Jim was born on July 8, 1938, in Deer Park, Maryland, to the late James L. and Isabelle L. (Hanton) Sebold. At a young age, he experienced the profound loss of both of his parents in a tornado. He was subsequently welcomed into the home of his Uncle Ed and Aunt Ruth, who lovingly raised him as their own. Jim graduated from high school in Toledo and then went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Toledo in 1961.
Following graduation, Jim married, and later raised his daughter and son. Throughout his life, he pursued a variety of professional endeavors before establishing himself as a Licensed Certified Public Accountant, a career he maintained with distinction for more than 50 years. Among his ventures, Jim owned and operated The Robin’s Nest Card and Gift Shop and Dan’s Ice Cream Shop, and also worked in the funeral industry, all in Camden, ME.
In 1983, Jim married Susan (Sue), and welcomed her son and daughter into his family. In 1993, Jim and Sue relocated to Concord, NH, where they purchased their “forever home” complete with a spacious backyard – the perfect setting for their shared passion for gardening.
Jim was a man of many talents and interests. He had a deep love for carpentry and sculpting, enjoyed traveling across the United States with his family, and treasured attending art shows. At home, he could often be found “hanging out on the back porch” enjoying his great-grandchildren’s visits, cheering on the Boston Celtics, or quietly taking in the wildlife and the beautiful gardens that he and Sue cultivated together. While he had weaknesses for both powdered donuts and peaches and cream oatmeal, he was spoiled by Sue’s home cooking – particularly her lamb and scallops, which he regarded as a special treat.
Jim is survived by his wife Susan of Concord, NH; his daughter Robin Sebold and husband Rutley Chalk of Camden, ME; his bonus son Matthew Cleveland and fiancรฉe Karen Gosselin of Dunbarton, NH; his bonus daughter Kaaren Christie of Camden, ME; his daughter-in-law Kimber Clark; his grandchildren Austin Cleveland and wife Haleigh, Owen Cleveland, Hayden Christie, and Kailyn Gosselin; his 3 great-grand children Joanna, Elias, and Noah; his sisters Margaret (Marge) Terneus, and Martha Jane Mullennex and husband David; his brother Frederick Sebold; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to both sets of parents, he was predeceased by his son Scott Sebold in 2020, brother-in-law Ed Terneus, and sister-in-law Jean Sebold.
A private burial in Wakefield, MA, and a celebration of life, for family and close friends, will both be held at a later date. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to either the Granite VNA, 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord, NH 03301 or The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield, Inc., c/o Edward and Irene Schmidgall Fund, PO Box 321, Wakefield, MA 01880.
