A fire in Weare on Monday evening damaged a house on Hemlock Drive and killed a family dog. No people were injured.

According to Weare Fire Rescue, the blaze was called in to 911 at 5:36 p.m. First responders were told all the residents were safe outside but the dog was missing.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire at the home, located at the end of a short cul-de-sac, but a second alarm was called due to its intensity. Several other departments provided backup.

The cause remains under investigation.
