State Police and rescue teams located the body of a 25-year-old Allenstown man who fell in the Merrimack River in Hooksett on Saturday evening and drowned.
Investigators said Jeremiah Willey is believed to have accidentally fallen into the river while on a railroad bridge near Riverside Street in Hooksett around 7 p.m. Saturday. He struggled to stay above the surface before he submerged.
The search for Willey was suspended Saturday night due to darkness and resumed Sunday morning. His body was recovered around 9 a.m.
Response teams used boats and drones with thermal imaging capabilities to search the river, which flows southbound toward Manchester. After several hours of searching, rescue teams paused overnight and were expected to resume in daylight.
Members of the Hooksett Police Department, Hooksett Fire-Rescue Department and Hopkinton Police Department, as well as the New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol and New Hampshire Fish and Game, conducted the search.
The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Christopher Prenaveau at (603) 223-8620 orย Christopher.J.Prenaveau@dos.nh.gov.
