A Hillsboro man who police say acted as if he had a gun was subdued by a police dog during his arrest Thursday evening.
According to Hillsboro Police, Grandon Garland, 39, had been stopped on Henniker Street at about 8:10 p.m. based on an active arrest warrant.

“During the encounter, Garland exited the vehicle as directed and walked backward with his hands raised. He then abruptly reached toward his waistband, turned, and extended his hands toward officers in a manner consistent with drawing a weapon. As a result, K9 Voight was immediately deployed and successfully subdued Garland,” Hillsoboro police wrote in a release.
K9 Voight joined the town police force at the end of 2023.
Garland was transported to a hospital for injuries associated with the incident and held on preventative detention, police said.
A search of his motor vehicle “revealed numerous packages of controlled substances, including suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and prescription medications,” police said.
Antrim and Henniker police departments assisted in the arrest.
