I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Franklin High School for earning recognition as the best in the state. This achievement is remarkable on its own, but it takes on greater meaning given how the community has too often been underestimated.
For years, Franklin has been labeled by its socioeconomic challenges rather than its strengths, potential or resilience. The latest honor proves what many of us have always known: excellence is not determined by a ZIP code.
I hope this achievement encourages more excellent people like this wonderful principal, who understands his audience. He saw that this was a place not to be dismissed. He has made it a place where hard work pays off, where young people rise to meet high expectations.
