It’s the Republicans, stupid
When Bill Clinton was campaigning for president, his campaign staff came up with the phrase, “it’s the economy, stupid,” as a method to keep the discussion focused on economic issues. Might I suggest that the Democratic Party learn from this past experience — it worked — and shift the focus from President Trump to the Repubican Party as a whole as being responsible for supporting/enabling his actions, since they have become the Party of Trump.
Every day brings something new that Trump has done or said that is even more disturbing or unbelievable or unconstitutional than the day before. Efforts to challenge Trump’s actions, however, have shown that he is pretty much immune to any criticism and can be quite vindictive in retaliating.
It is time to change tactics. Instead of focusing on Trump, Democrats need to hold every Republican, and the Party as a whole, accountable for the President’s actions. Whenever Trump is ridiculing or threatening someone, Republicans need to be challenged for staying silent. Whenever Trump is doing things that contribute to increased inflation, Republicans need to labeled inflationary. Whenever Trump is bypassing or ignoring the Constitution, Republicans need to be called out for enabling it.
We are known by the company we keep. If you keep company with a president who is petty and vindictive and more than willing to ignore the Constitution, don’t be surprised when you are connected with those things.
