An indispensable part of my community

A remarkable letter in the May 8 issue reminds me of how important our Concord Monitor is to life and democracy in Concord and New Hampshire.

Barrington planning board member Scott Shepard contended persuasively that to bring about real solutions to New Hampshire citizens’ and businesses’ most serious public problems, its state legislative process must focus on interconnected issues together, strategically โ€” rather than on single issues separately in response to specific constituent and partisan conerns โ€” in order to produce fewer but more comprehensive, fully thought through and effective bills and ultimately laws.

The Monitor is my only journalistically credible, day-to-day source of news, and of opinion such as Mr. Shepardโ€™s, about local and state government, business, people, organizations, events, sports, and happenings good and bad. It is my only vehicle for being a well informed, engaged and enriched citizen and voter.

So, as I think about Concord in celebration of its 300th year, I celebrate the Monitor as an indispensable part of my community.
