Budget cuts effect neurodivergent students
My name is Aurora. I’m an 8th grader at The Beech Hill School in Hopkinton. When I heard about the budget cuts on schools, I felt that it is likely the accommodations that would be cut would be the ones that help neurodivergent students. These accommodations are important for students who need extra help and support. Even though these accommodations aren’t the best and can make some people struggle more if you cut them, it is taken away from the people that need them.
I have ADHD, OCD, Anxiety, and Deppresion. Living with these disorders has made my life harder in a plethora of ways. The two disorders that have caused me the most difficulty in my life are Autism and ADHD. For me, Autism has made it harder for me to socialize, make friends or communicate with other people. It’s also a common misconception that having Autism means you’re shy but some people are not. For me personally, having Autism has caused me to be shy around new people but talkative around people I know. On the other hand, my ADHD has made me struggle to focus and has made me more immature then other people at times.
Having these differences has caused me to struggle making friends, struggle to focus, get disliked by teachers, space out, lose focus, take longer on tests and process slower.
In my opinion, I would hate to see accommodations taken away from people who feel they are helpful.
