Five townhouses are being planned on South State Street around McLeod Florist, which will soon move a short distance to continue its more than 100-year-old business.
“We’re just revitalizing a space that needed it,” said John Reardon, the general contractor proposing the project. It is scheduled to be heard by the Concord Planning Board in June.
Although McLeod Florist’s brick-and-mortar store at 49 S. State St. is closed as work continues around it, the business is still open and providing flowers through its online site and other venues. It plans to announced details about its new location soon.
Reardon is proposing to build a a 2-story, 3,500 square foot addition to the florist, to replace an existing greenhouse with three townhouses and to turn a former duplex on the Concord Street side of the property into two additional townhouses. All five will be market-rate townhouses.
It is a fairly straightforward project, according to Reardon, although with portions of the buildings dating back to 1850, surprises may show up. If all goes well, the project should be finished this year.
