A 50-year-old woman was indicted in connection with a 17-year-old boy’s death at Lake Winnipesaukee last year, authorities announced.

Buffy Ann Doyle, of Nashua, is accused of giving the teen alcohol and allowing him to swim in Lake Winnipesaukee, knowing he was under the influence, according to State Police. She was charged with felony negligent homicide, two counts of witness tampering and falsifying physical evidence.

Last summer, on June 20, 2025, at 12:48 p.m., the state’s marine patrol received a 911 call of a person failing to resurface after submerging in the lake. Officers responded to the scene, near Diamond and Rattlesnake Islands, and found three women on a boat. That area of the lake is called the “Broads,” because of the broad expansive area of water known for its choppiness.

The women reported the teen went into the water to find a bag that went overboard. Rough conditions caused by high winds caused him to struggle, and he eventually went under the surface.

He was not found until 7:02 p.m. when the New Hampshire Fish and Game Dive Unit recovered his body.

New Hampshire State Police completed their extensive investigation on April 17 and Doyle has since been indicted by a Belknap County grand jury. She entered a not guilty plea to all four counts and was released on personal recognizance.

Doyle is scheduled to appear in Belknap County Superior Court on June 26.
