Concord Crew is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, current rowers, coaches, friends, family and alumni will hit the water. After, they’ll enjoy a cookout in classic Concord Crew style. The event is open to all.
The non-profit rowing club has come a long way in the last 25 years. Its youth and master’s programs are based out of the Whittemore Boathouse on the Merrimack River and are open to all from the surrounding areas.
Head coach Steve Garside said it’s impressive and reassuring to be reaching the milestone.
“It started out down in Amoskeag boat house down in Hooksett, just a small program, one boat, and over time it’s evolved,” he said.
Even though he hasn’t been with the team since the beginning, the stories of keeping the club afloat inspire him.
The dedication of parents, coaches and rowers over the years made Concord Crew what it is today.
“You’re part of something special here, and it’s a lot on my shoulders, making sure it moves on into the future for the next generation,” Garside added.
The club offers a variety of options for novice and seasoned rowers.
For beginners, they offer a middle school and a youth summer learn-to-row program, and a youth skills and drills summer schedule.
Next, they have U23/30 and masters competitive programs in the fall and spring and “Elite Youth” and collegiate summer programs. They also have an adult learn-to-row program and recreational adult fall and spring seasons.
On June 6, National Learn-to-Row Day, Concord Crew will host an open house for any and all interested.
