Legislators undermining democracy

While the world is focused on Iran, the humanitarian crisis continues in Gaza. Israel is still blocking aid. Children are growing up malnourished, orphaned, without homes and denied hope. The suffering and deprivation are horrific.

Our four federal legislators have admirably called for an end to suffering in Gaza.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen: the Gaza Famine is a “shameful black mark on humanity.”

Rep. Chris Pappas: “The war must end and relief must get to innocent civilians in Gaza who desperately need it.”

Sen.Maggie Hassan: “It is vital that humanitarian aid surge into Gaza.”

Rep. Maggie Goodlander signed a letter that demanded Secretary of State Marco Rubio ensure “desperately needed humanitarian aid reaches Gazan civilians.”

Their trumpeted concern is only political theater. All four legislators have refused to take legislative action. Tellingly, they’ve refused to support two critical bills central to delivering needed aid to Gaza: S. 898 and H. R. 2411. They’ve refused to leverage U.S. aid to force Israel to open Gaza’s borders. Months of calls to their offices have been repeatedly met with the non-answer: “There is no statement at this time.” Meanwhile, Israel continues to impose horrific suffering on Gaza with impunity, our legislators pretend to care and we are paying for it all.

When legislators brazenly mislead their constituents like this, they are undermining our democracy and should be voted out. Shame on them and the party that supports them.
