William Hoyt

New London, NH – William C. Hoyt, 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died peacefully from complications of Parkinson’s disease on May 23rd at his home surrounded by family. He was deeply loved.

Bill was born in Woburn, MA on June 6, 1946 the son of William L. and Miriam (Hollander) Hoyt. He graduated from Winchester High School in 1964 and Dartmouth College in 1968. After college he joined the US Navy serving as a Naval Aviator. In the Vietnam War, Bill flew 60 combat missions piloting the A7 Corsair II aircraft from the deck of the carrier USS Midway. In 1975 he stepped away from active duty in the Navy with the rank of Lt Commander.

After the Navy, Bill earned an MBA in 1977 from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He then joined IPC- Freudenberg Corporation. As Vice President of Finance, Mergers and Acquisitions, his role took him from the US to Germany, France, Korea, Mexico, and Canada. In 1990 he and his wife bought and ran their own manufacturing company and in later years owned and developed both software and solar power companies. He retired in 2018.

By his side throughout his adventures was his beloved wife, Lynne. Bill & Lynne were married exactly one year after starting their love affair on a Dartmouth/Colby-Sawyer blind date and were still holding hands after 57 wonderful years of marriage. Making their life in New London, they built a home and raised 3 children. Bill was active with the Elkins Fish and Game Club and a Charter Member of the New London Rotary Club for a number of years. He was a fixture throughout the community.

Bill enjoyed sailing vacations in the Caribbean as well as time boating on Lake Sunapee, skiing, and took several vacations to locations around the world, but he was always happiest spending time with his children and grandchildren. Whether he was taking them tubing on the lake or making them breakfast (always with bacon) in the mornings, Bill’s quick wit, friendly smile, and wonderful sense of humor drew people to him throughout his life. He was a man of honor, integrity and humility and will be missed.

Surviving him are his wife Lynne, sisters Sara Bennett of Belfast, ME, Jean Beal and her husband Jonathan Beal of Belfast, ME; and brother Stewart Hoyt and his wife Karen Hoyt of Corvallis, MT; son William (Bill) Hoyt and his wife Kate Hoyt of Newport, NH, son Matthew Hoyt of Hampton, NH, and daughter Anne and her husband Mark Bodenrader of Pelham, NH, seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
