Artificial intelligence is a reality in our lives, with the potential for much good and much harm. It may help develop medical advances, enhance industrial efficiency, and help mitigate climate change effects.
On the other hand, if AI remains under the control of oligarchs like Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg, and the Ellisons, we face massive job losses, loss of control over our democracy, unmitigated environmental damage, invasion of our privacy, increased likelihood of wars, and other disasters.
We need elected officials to act on this. So far, our Congress has done nothing, while the Trump administration and most Republicans have endorsed the oligarchy.
Carleigh Beriont, candidate for U.S. Congress, demonstrates an in-depth and nuanced understanding of AI issues far beyond her competition in either party. Her motto, “More of the same won’t fix this,” is a rallying cry for change.
Safeguarding the American people rather than fast-tracking AI expansion is the principle underlying Carliegh’s approach. She favors requiring transparency of AI algorithms rendering decisions on patients’ health care and workers’ jobs. She insists on Congressional oversight of AI practices, with powers to enforce timely accountability and correction, rather than waiting decades for class action suits to take effect. She does not want the decision to use nuclear weapons controlled by AI!
