Democratic Socialism is Inevitable

In the wake of a historic victory for the Democratic Socialists of America in New York City with 3/3 of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s endorsements winning their primaries, we turn to New Hampshire’s own young democratic socialist congressional candidate in State Rep. Heath Howard for NH CD-01.

New Hampshire is a state that neighbors Vermont, where independent democratic socialist Senator Bernie Sanders serves. In the 2016 and 2020 presidential primaries, we voted for Sanders. Our state is no stranger to the idea that every person in this country deserves universal healthcare and that working people deserve more than the crumbs they are given by the ruling class.

Heath Howard is a frontrunner in a crowded primary with establishment favorites such as Jeanne Shaheen’s daughter Stefany Shaheen, Maura Sullivan and Christian Urrutia. Howard stands out from these candidates with the platform that works to serve working people the best: Medicare for All, universal childcare, a Green New Deal, free college, codifying Roe v. Wade and abolishing ICE. The position that most sets him apart from the others is his opposition to the United States’ support for the genocide in Gaza.

Our state’s working people and our youth deserve a new generation of leadership that is incorruptible and deeply committed to the well-being and prosperity of all people in New Hampshire, the United States, and the world. Democratic socialism is not radical, it’s merely the idea that government should benefit the many.
