New perspective from Weare

When my family moved to New Hampshire, we came from a city larger than the entire state, drawn by the promise of a close-knit community where neighbors know each other and voices matter.

Instead, I found a poorly managed transfer station, rising property taxes nearing those we left in Florida, and a community increasingly concerned about the influence of Free Staters and the MAGA movement. I also learned that state laws had eliminated local revenue sources, forcing greater reliance on property taxes. Rather than complain, I chose to get involved.

As a first-generation Democrat, I understand concerns about rhetoric that dehumanizes minorities and the LGBTQ community. I’m also surprised more women don’t share my concerns about proposals I see as rolling back women’s rights. At the same time, I recognize the ongoing debate within the Democratic Party between progressive and conservative wings, which I believe strengthens the party.

I encourage non-Democrats to review our candidates and consider what a gerrymandered majority has delivered: higher property taxes, state-controlled alcohol, and no legal cannabis — costing the state an estimated $30–50 million annually. Consider all ideas, treat others with respect, and I believe the state will improve for everyone.
