Paula Bird

Bisbee, AZ – Paula Ann (Berwick) Bird- a brilliant smile, a warm heart, and a kind soul-passed away unexpectedly on June 8, 2026, at the age of 62 in Bisbee, AZ.

She was born December 19, 1963, in Newport, NH, the eldest daughter of the late Glenn E. and Lois Berwick. Paula had a passion for helping people and worked hard to accomplish her goals. After graduating from Pembroke Academy, she continued her education at Boston College, completing both her BSW and MSW degrees in social work. Following college, she stayed local and worked as a clinical social worker for several agencies throughout the years.

In 1998, Paula embraced motherhood when she adopted her daughter, Bianca, whom she loved beyond measure. She proudly supported her through dance competitions, horseback riding, piano lessons, and her journey to becoming a teacher. She was also a lovingly devoted sister, a fierce friend, and a beloved “Auntie.”

Paula was a longtime member of the Concord Community Players, occasionally performing but most often working behind the scenes. Her passion for storytelling and film later led her to pursue an MFA in film production at the University of Southern California. While living in Los Angeles, she worked on several independent films as a producer and in various production roles.

Paula shared a lifelong bond with animals and a love for all, but dogs were especially drawn to her gentle spirit. Her dog Piper was her constant companion for many years and hardly left her side. He was often seen riding in his leopard-print front pack or Vera Bradley tote, going to the movies, restaurants, the theater, and he and Paula even traveled to the Empire State Building. Later, Beanie, Lola, Ita, and Georgie followed in his footsteps. Those who knew her often spoke of the quiet “Paula magic” she shared with animals.

Paula loved exploring new places and spending time outdoors. She and her wife, Deb, discovered Bisbee, started a new chapter of life there, found new friendships, and a beautiful community. She enjoyed their walks along the riverbed with the dogs, her little gardens, the beautiful birds at their feeders, and was always amazed by the mountains surrounding their home.

Paula is predeceased by her parents, Glenn E. and Lois Berwick. She is survived by her wife, Deborah Wood; daughter, Bianca Bird; sister, Amy Ueland and husband Thomas Ueland; brother, Glenn Berwick and partner Laurie Vallee; niece, Cassandra (Ueland) Yeo; and nephew, Karnar Ueland.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Kimball Jenkins Estate Carriage House from 11:30 am-1:30 pm.
