Newbury, NH – It is with heavy hearts that we announce Harold John Brooks Sr., 86, of Gillingham Drive, passed away on June 28, 2026, with family by his side.
Born in Haverhill, NH, Harold was the son of the late Omer and Christine Brooks and brother of late Bernice Gant.
Known by all as John, he lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a strong sense of duty. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1964, carrying the values of honor and commitment throughout his life.
After his military service, he built a long career at Sturm, Ruger & Company for over 20 years. His passion and knowledge of firearms led him into another chapter of service as a police officer and firearms instructor, where he proudly dedicated 25 years to protecting and educating others.
John had many passions throughout his life, coins, researching family lineage, hunting, and fishing. He was a true outdoorsman who appreciated the beauty of nature. But his greatest passion was rooted at home, where he spent 33 years with his beloved late wife, Louise. Together, they enjoyed gardening, creating memories, and sharing a life built on love, companionship, and the little moments that meant the most.
He is survived by his five children, Harold John Brooks Jr. (Liane Hoyt) of Northfield, NH, Gwen (Jeffery) Dunaj of Edgewood, NM, Michael Coburn (Shirley Frost) of Owls Head, ME, Debra Johnson of Springfield, VT, and Tammy (Steve) Heiser of Newport, NH, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his sisters, Jean Coresetti of Sweetwater, TN, Nancy Amell of Claremont, NH; nieces and nephews.
Harold leaves behind a legacy of strength, knowledge, service, and kindness that will continue through the generations. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
To honor John, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled Veterans National Foundation and the NH Troopers Association.
