The WWII TBM Avenger torpedo bomber that was scheduled to be in Concord for a military funeral flyover will no longer make it New Hampshire due to mechanical issues.
The historic plane, which was set to arrive at the Concord Municipal Airport on Monday, has been grounded in Virginia, according to Pete Ballard of the Capital Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, a nonprofit that preserves military aircraft.
“Such is the nature of flying 80 year old airplanes. They require a lot of maintenance and tend to have mechanical issues at exactly the most inopportune time,” Ballard said in an email to the Monitor.
Doris Mae, the plane set to perform the flyover at the funeral of WWII Marine Edgar Norcross on Tuesday, would have been available to the public for rides and viewing through Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. These have also been canceled.
Norcross’ funeral will be held at the NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen as scheduled.
