For the last 43 years, a summer tradition like no other has brought people across the region to Pittsfield, calling them with food, fireworks, games and most importantly hot air balloons.
The Suncook Valley Rotary’s Hot Air Balloon Rally returns this year for its 44th year, with four ascensions from July 31 to August 2.
The weekend begins with an ascension on Friday evening. After dark, balloons will illuminate the skies for two Night Glow events on Friday and Saturday.
Visitors are welcome to join numerous activities throughout the weekend, including helicopter rides, live music, pilot meet-and-greets and a craft fair. For those looking for a challenge, the rally invites spectators to compete in the “Anything that floats” River Regatta Race and the Frank H. Donovan 5K Road Race.
Rotary club members are “all super excited” for the event’s kick-off, said Fallon Reed, Hot Air Balloon Rally chair.
Live music will returns at this year’s rally, alongside a new cornhole tournament for all to enjoy. “It will be an awesome time, like it always has been,” Reed said.
Families can expect to see two new exciting balloons, made to resemble the likes of characters from popular kid’s shows. “It really is a family event, and we are super pumped about the special shaped balloons this year,” she added.
Admission is free, with paid parking options that offer shuttle services to and from the fairgrounds.
The Hot Air Balloon Rally is the Suncook Valley Rotary Club’s largest annual fundraiser. Proceeds from the event support scholarships and community initiatives across Barnstead, Pittsfield, Chichester, Epsom and Loudon.
