NIMBY in Warner
Not in My Back Yard (NIMBY) is when someone supports an idea like affordable housing but opposes it when it is proposed in their neighborhood. When reading the story about the proposed housing development in Warner, all I read from the opposition was NIMBY. The claim that this development would impact the “spirit of Warner” is code for we don’t want low- to middle-income residents in our town.
It should not be the sole responsibility of New Hampshire’s municipalities to provide all the affordable housing in the state. It is time for communities like Warner to assist with the housing crisis even if it upsets folks that only want people that can afford a $500,000 house living in their town.
