Despite forecasts for brilliant foliage throughout the Northeast this year, longtime leaf watchers say the leaves this fall are dull and weeks behind schedule in their turn from green to the brilliant hues of autumn.

A 17-year-old man was badly injured Monday afternoon after jumping off Glen Ellis Falls in Gorham and landing on some rocks, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game. The waterfall is about 64 feet high.

The agency said the teen, who is from Massachusetts, could not walk when rescuers arrived but that his life was not in danger.

“He knowingly made a poor decision that could have ended a lot worse than it did. Enough said,” the department’s press release ends.

Glen Ellis Falls is a popular spot for visitors to Pinkham Notch, as it is a short walk from a parking lot on Route 16 in Gorham.

The accident happened at about 3:40 p.m. Personnel from Bartlett/Jackson Ambulance, multiple fire departments, Jackson Police, Bartlett Police, New Hampshire State Police, Appalachian Mountain Club, Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue Team and Fish and Game responded.

The teen was secured in a litter and carried to the Glen Ellis Falls parking lot, then transferred into the Bartlett/Jackson ambulance and taken to Memorial Hospital in North Conway for evaluation and treatment.
