Wilmot, NH –
Lawrence C. Blair passed away on July 6, 2026 with his family by his side. Born on November 3, 1942 in Springfield, MA, the location of the Quarter Master’s Office where his mother worked early in WWII, he was raised in NH. His father served with General George Patton in Germany. A vivid and rather alarming memory from a three year old boy’s perspective was the cheerfully ecstatic activity celebrating the end of WWII!
Larry was a 1961 graduate of Concord High School, a 1974 graduate of Plymouth State College, and a four year veteran of the U.S. Air Force – serving from 1961-1965. He served as a law enforcement officer in several local departments – part time and full time, and as a N.H. State Trooper. With a teaching degree from PSC, he taught history at Coe Brown Academy in Northwood for eight years and many years later retired from State Farm Insurance in Bedford, NH.
A long time interest in firearms and marksmanship led him to membership in the Single Action Shooters’ Society which prevailed throughout the remainder of his life. Following his retirement he and his wife settled for a decade in beautiful, central AZ where many friends were made and extensive traveling to very beautiful, historic places was thoroughly enjoyed!
Larry was predeceased by his parents and one dearly missed sister, Nancy Blair. He was also, unfortunately, predeceased in an auto accident by his first wife, Marjorie Hall leaving him with his two daughters, Laura Blaisdell (husband Jim) and Karen Gilmore Buxton (husband Steve) who survive him. His second wife of fifty-five years, Peggy, and a second sister, Susan Gestewitz (husband Earl) also survive him as well as many nieces and nephews. His grandchildren number six; Two granddaughters – Jessica (Jim) Landry and one great grandson Leo; Nicole (Matt) Lyman and one great granddaughter Luna: Four grandsons – Cory (Cait) Gilmore and three great grandchildren Quinn, McKenna and Callan; Nathan Gilmore, Sean (Meghan) Buxton and Michael (Brianna) Buxton.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, NH. A celebration of life will be held on October 12 at Dell-Lea – 81 Pleasant Street – Chichester, NH. The exact time will be determined later.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord Merrimack Co., 94 Silk Farm Rd. Penacook, NH 03301 due to Larry’s love of cats.
The FANTASTIC hospice nursing team who helped with the closing days of Larry’s life were more than anyone could have hoped for. They were WONDERFUL in EVERY way and deserve accolades! The Dartmouth Hitchcock oncology department was very pleasant, professional, and supportive. Both the Hanover team and the New London teams were able to make this ordeal manageable. They have our gratitude!
Larry will be a man sorely missed.
