Taxing me out

The Ralph Jimenez article, re: taxes, resonates with me. I have lived in my house, in my affordable neighborhood for 37 years. I’ve raised my three kids here, cultivated my garden and continue to enjoy my neighbors and my dog friends who walk by. Obviously the neighborhood has changed over the years, with younger people moving in , making block parties, including the few old timers who are still hanging on. I love my home. I need to keep my home. My kids live far and wide and I need a place for them to stay when they visit, but most importantly, where would I go? I need my garden and the daily connecting with these wonderful people who have become friends.

The big question on my mind is whether I will be able to afford to remain here on Rumford Street. Have you received your assessment letters? How is it possible that my reassessment in one year went up 70%? Really? I haven’t done anything to my property … this is one year! I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels they are being taxed out!

It’s time we voters did something about the tax structure in this state and the politicians who adhere to the old way. I know I will be looking at candidates who have new ideas, hopefully creative ideas, and who can move beyond sticking to the old war cry.
