Calling for a return to good government
I believe in good government.
By good, I mean a government that takes care of its people, that uses our tax dollars for fair access to food — yes, all children with enough to eat — and healthcare, education, housing, scientific research, national parks and infrastructure.
Roads and medical breakthroughs, not gilded ballrooms and outsized ego monuments and strange reflecting pools. Not bombing one country after another, embroiling us in unwinnable wars, making enemies of allies. Not buying drones from cronies. Not running concentration camps for immigrants, or shooting them and killing our citizens. Not getting rich pocketing our tax dollars, either.
In 1956, the Republican platform supported the expansion of Social Security, higher minimum wages, broadened unemployment insurance, civil rights advancements and federal assistance for public health and infrastructure, while maintaining conservative fiscal and foreign policies. They did not call this communism, but responsible, good, democratic government.
This year we get to vote again for the kind of government we want. Make sure you’re registered. Make sure everyone’s vote is protected. Think about what you value. Quiz the candidates. And join me in calling on Senators Shaheen and Hassan, and Representatives Goodlander and Pappas, to work hard now for a government that spends our tax dollars on helping and uplifting us all.
