Warner , NH – Casey Lee Miller hatched on June 8, 1973, in Joplin, Missouri, to Fred L. Miller, now deceased, and Patti Storm Miller. Casey lived his early life in and around Missouri, graduating from Missouri Southern State University in 1995. He moved to New Hampshire in 2002 to take advantage of the more favorable temperatures and attend law school at Franklin Pierce Law Center.
After passing the New Hampshire Bar Examination, Casey was admitted to the Bar in 2007. He enjoyed the life of a small-town lawyer and all the interesting cases that came across his desk. He was a friend to the underdog, often waiving fees and working extra hours to secure justice for his clients. In his final years, he found satisfaction as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, much like one of his heroes, the singer-songwriter John Prine.
Self-amused, gifted, and uninterested in the accumulation of wealth, Casey was a man of multiple professions, following his passions wherever they led. In addition to lawyer and mail carrier, he also delivered prescriptions to the elderly, tested self-pay tollbooth systems, volunteered as dunk a lawyer to benefit the local food pantry, and penned obituaries for the Joplin Globe. Of the latter, Casey humbly admitted “he was pretty good at it” within the obituary he wrote for his father in 2015 that went viral.
Casey was a live wire of a frontman with a powerful voice. He breathed music and performed as a singer/guitarist from Missouri to Dallas, New Hampshire, and even Baltimore and Bali, Indonesia. His law school band, Casey Miller & Friend, enjoyed a certain level of popularity and notoriety both rocking and rolling the Concord circuit, including a residency at the Tea Garden Restaurant. Live fan favorites included his originals, “Lick My Plate” and “Third Arm.”
Casey fought a two-year battle with esophageal cancer and almost never complained. On June 11th, 2026, Casey’s body became unable to contain so much life. He flew over the cuckoo’s nest peacefully at Jack Byrne Center, surrounded by love and immersed in the music that soundtracked a life rich in experience. He is survived by his mother, Patti Bendure; his close friend and nurse advocate, Jess Caswell; and his loyal, supportive friend Erin Reed. Casey is also survived by other numerous family members, a group of devoted friends, a large number of amused acquaintances, relieved figures of authority, and various pets.
The best Casey Miller stories are not fit to print, so it is requested to share them at Lake Kezar in Wadleigh State Park on August 16th. Or during a pub crawl and benefit in his honor on September 26th at three local restaurants.
He would prefer posthumous donations, even now. In lieu of that, he was wonderfully supported by the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and the Jack Byrne Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Watch his Facebook page for additional details.
