A 62-year-old man suffered a medical emergency and died Saturday while hiking the Welch-Dickey trail near Plymouth, one of the most popular hikes in the White Mountains.
New Hampshire Fire and Game said the first notification of trouble came in at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, reporting that the man was “not feeling well and unable to walk.” Volunteers from PEMI Vally Search and Rescue Team and Conservation Officers responded to the
trailhead, but before they could arrive on site, another 911 call was received “that the hiker collapsed and was no longer responsive.
“CPR was started by passing hikers and continued until volunteers arrived,” according to a statement.
The man was airlifted out by New Hampshire Army National Guard helicopter but did not survive. His name is being withheld until family members can be notified. Volunteers returned to the trailhead at 5:36 p.m.
