The Republican downshift
To every Republican attempting to pull the wool over voter’s eyes, we know that you are continually downshifting the costs of government onto the local community and raising our property taxes. For instance, every time I pay my yearly property taxes of almost $10,000, I’m reminded that maybe $15,000 of state educational dollars may be going directly into the pocket of one individual family who receives Education Freedom Accounts or vouchers to pay for “educational activities.”
Some of those activities include yoga classes, karate lessons or a new piano for their budding musician. Others help pay for posh schools where the rich get yet another tax break by having part of the tuition paid by vouchers. I then face the fact that these Republicans who have siphoned so much of our tax dollars to dole out to these people continually underfund state educational aid to our local communities who must then pick up the tab. It’s a scam and it’s led by Republicans who tour the state trying to blame Democrats for high property taxes. It’s an old trick of Republicans to blame Democrats for what they, themselves, are doing but don’t be fooled.
We pay the highest property taxes in the nation because Republicans, who’ve controlled the state legislature for several years, keep giving tax breaks to the rich, cut state services and downshift costs for those services onto our local communities resulting in higher property taxes. Want lower property taxes? Vote the Republicans out.
