Vermont Public reports a bit of environmental good news from the Green Mountain state:
For more than 30 years, Vermont scientists have been setting up floating rafts where loons can build their nests. But now, scientists with the state’s loon conservation program are starting to pull those rafts out of lakes. They say loons are doing so well that it’s time to let them nest without human aid.
Loons are doing well in New Hampshire, too: There are about 350 nesting pairs in the state, almost five times the number in 1975 when we began working to preserve them.
