Silence equals complicity
We have the right to free speech. In our current political climate, exercising that right is threatened. Because it is threatened, it’s become an obligation. Silence equals complicity. Atrocious actions are happening across our country and even through anxiety, embarrassment and fear, we must speak out. I’ll go first:
No, our tax money should not be spent arming violent masked men kidnapping our neighbors and delivering them to uninspected, for-profit prisons.
No, it’s not OK that people who came here seeking asylum are being imprisoned and deported, sometimes to dangerous countries they’re not even from.
No, I don’t believe that murders recorded in broad daylight were done in self-defense.
No, it is not fine to separate families causing incalculable trauma.
My heart breaks when I read the conditions of the prisons where we relegate our former community members; medical care is denied or inadequate. There have been over 50 deaths in these prisons since the start of Trump’s second term.
No, I don’t want to pay for torture devices like electrified gloves which will be used on anyone resisting being kidnapped or others peacefully protesting the kidnapping.
No, I don’t approve of arresting military spouses — destroying the families of our most patriotic people, to add to the tally of deportations.
Silence equals complicity. Use your voice — write a letter to the editor, hold signs at a visibility, contact our elected officials. Speak out now while you still can.
