Concord, NH – George Dana Harrington, 84, of Concord, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 11, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents, George William Harrington and Alice Irene (Johnson) Harrington as well as his brother David Harrington. He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris (Knowlton) Harrington of Concord; his niece Tracy Harrington; his nephew Troy Harrington and his wife, Sue; and many extended family who loved him dearly.
Born in Putnam, CT, his family lived in Rhode Island until they moved to Concord when he was five years old. Due to multiple George’s living in the neighborhood, he chose the nickname “Bones” with his childhood friends. He lived in the house he grew up in for the rest of his life. He graduated from Concord High School in 1960 and graduated the University of New Hampshire, earning a Bachelors of Science in business in 1964. He kept in touch with his close group of friends from UNH his whole life and looked back very fondly of his time there.
He loved to talk about baseball statistics from many generations of his beloved Red Socks. He was ahead of his time in the world of climate change and was an avid recycler, often seen at family gatherings collecting cans and bringing them home to recycle. For decades, he was involved in many volunteer projects, including Mr. Fixit and many more.
George worked for over 29 years for the state of NH as a bank examiner, traveling all over the state. This was where he met his wife Doris, and they married on May 3, 1985. They had a love for travel, particularly the Nubble Lighthouse in ME. He and Doris visited many times, often bringing one of their treasured dogs. They travelled all over the country, with trips to Europe and Canada with groups, family and friends. George was known for his encyclopedic knowledge that could fascinate anyone he spoke with.
Throughout his life, he kept his wit, memory and intellect. He will be missed by many and remembered fondly by all those who were lucky to know him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of their choice, honoring George’s belief that each person holds different causes close to their hearts, and they all make a difference.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours Monday, August 24, 2026 from 1:00-3:00 pm followed by his funeral service at 3:00 pm in the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street, Concord.
