Truly independent?
Lilly Tang Williams and Victor Orlando have spent a great deal of time in this campaign attempting to distance themselves from the president’s policies and influence. Yet, when they had the chance to demonstrate their willingness to hold the president accountable, they wilted. Commenting on Maggie Goodlander’s participation in a video reminding members of the military they do not have to obey illegal orders, both showed they lacked the political courage to oppose the president when necessary.
Orlando deemed the video treason while Tang Williams gave a typically vague response about following the chain of command. Reminding Americans of the law is most certainly not treason and labeling it that makes it quite clear that neither candidate would be willing, as members of the House, to carry out their Constitutional duty of executive oversight. Unless of course the executive was a member of the opposite party. For one of their own? Just more enabling of bad presidential behavior and bad policies and independent only when politically expedient.
