Pappas won — so now what?
I was one of many (nearly 35% of New Hampshire democrats) who supported Karishma Manzur. While I am too young to vote, I still canvassed, held signs and phonebanked in support of the progressive candidate. When Pappas won, I felt not only disappointed, but angry.
Pappas’s support dwindles each day; he’s losing Democrat supporters and independent supporters by his AIPAC ties, ICE voting record and lobbying. But Karishma’s support has shown that Pappas needs to show he has strong core beliefs and is willing to stand up for them. Pappas needs to earn his way into the Senate, and he needs to start by earning Karishma’s supporters.
Of course I prefer Pappas to Sununu, but Pappas needs to show why we should vote for him. He needs to make Democrats want him in office. Pappas needs to show what differentiates him from his Republican opponent. Being a Democrat means nothing if you don’t work for Democrat values.
I know I’m supposed to want him to win, but he hasn’t shown me why. I want him to earn my support, to show why he’s better than Sununu. I really do want Pappas to prove me wrong, that he cares about Democratic beliefs.
So I do not endorse Chris Pappas for Senate.
