I am a retired physician who practiced in New Hampshire for many years. Twenty-five years ago, I well remember that long-acting opiates first burst onto the scene as the miracle drugs that would solve the problem of pain for good. I listened to medical experts attesting to the safety and efficacy of these drugs, and I was convinced of that.
Twenty-five years ago, Cinde Warmington was a young attorney who was assigned work with the opiate manufacturer Purdue Pharma by her legal firm. She, too, knew nothing of the harm that opiates would cause. None of us did. She did her job admirably, working with the facts then available, which is what good medical and legal professionals do.
It wasn’t until years later that the terrible truth of the opioid epidemic proved our understanding to be very, very wrong. None of us realized 25 years ago what would eventually become clear years afterwards.
In contrast, just 10 years ago, long after the truth about opioids was known, her opponent Kelly Ayotte accepted money from the Sackler family, the owners of Purdue Pharma. And Kelly is the one claiming the high ground? She is the one who should be under fire!
Cinde Warmington stands up for those whose health insurance is at risk thanks to Kelly’s Medicaid policies, whose public educational opportunities are threatened by Kelly’s Education Freedom Accounts, and whose communities are burdened by property taxes that Kelly’s fiscal policies have created. I stand with Cinde Warmington.
