Granite Guarantees
The NH Republican Party has recently issued a “Granite Guarantee” as follows:
1. A ban on income tax, which would guarantee an increase in local real estate taxes and/or state programs and services severely compromised.
2. A cap on property taxes. That would guarantee reduction of programs, services and infrastructure maintenance at the local level. Both 1 and 2 are guaranteed to benefit the wealthy, not the average citizen.
3. A 60-day limit for state permit reviews that would likely guarantee shoddy and inadequate approvals.
4. Lower energy costs. No explanation of how this would be done.
5. Lower healthcare costs. This at a time when the federal government is cutting programs for eldercare, rural hospitals, eliminating insurance coverage for low income people. Just ignore increased pollution, climate change, new epidemics.
6. Parents decide. Fewer vaccines guarantees increased childhood diseases. Guarantees book bans at schools and libraries. Eliminating programs at the local level guarantees limited later access to secondary school opportunities.
7. Support public safety. Does this guarantee more ICE interference in our communities? More year-long transfers of NH National Guard? More military-style weapons for local departments? Who pays for this if there’s a ban on increased spending?
Our Republican leaders must have it all figured out. Less is more. Costs will go down. $5,000 to each and everyone. Guaranteed.
