Voice your opposition to Bow data center
Residents and representatives alike should speak out against the construction of an AI data center in Bow.
As reported by Sruthi Gopalakrishnan and Rebeca Pereira, “Granite Shore Power, owners of the closed Merrimack Station in Bow, have filed a request with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to enter into discussions with Eversource about making a connection to the power grid…
“A town official confirmed to the Monitor on Tuesday that there have been high-level discussions with a company about bringing a data center to Bow.”
The filing seeks to connect a 350-megawatt project to the grid, placing enormous new demand on our electrical system.
The construction of a hyperscale data center will only be a detriment to Bow and the region. These facilities consume enormous amounts of electricity while providing few permanent jobs. Meeting that demand can require additional generation and infrastructure, with environmental costs and the risk of higher rates.
Supporters may point to Bow’s tax base, but residents should know what they are being asked to accept. The developer and its expected power and water consumption, infrastructure requirements, permanent employment and any proposed tax agreement should be made public.
Residents of Bow and the surrounding area should speak up and make their voices heard by the Bow Select Board.
Candidates should make their opposition to this project and hyperscale data centers more broadly known and central to their platforms this fall.
