The hypocrisy of Kelly Ayotte
Kelly Ayotte’s campaign against Cinde Warmington for governor centers on Warmington’s six months of lobbying for Purdue Pharma, producer of Oxycontin, in 2002. Warmington was assigned this task as a first job by her law firm when she was a young attorney.
Understand that physicians 25 years ago were unaware of the highly addictive potential of this Oxycontin which was used effectively to relieve pain.
During these years, hospital accreditations were threatened for not adequately treating pain. Awareness improved by developing a fifth “vital sign” for pain. Warmington has stated unequivocally that she never would have worked to promote Purdue’s sales of Oxycontin had she known the dire consequences of this medication. Like Warmington, many physicians regret they did not know the dangers of Oxycontin.
The negative GOP adds against Warmington are hypocritical. Ayotte accepted money from the Sackler family, owners of Purdue Pharma, only 10 years ago when everyone knew the terrible truth about opioids and the company’s dishonesty. I believe Ayotte’s negative attacks on Warmington are an attempt to distract us from her failures. She cannot defend raising our electric bills, our healthcare premiums and our property taxes to pay for her school vouchers program.
The negative adds of Ayotte are shameful. When elected, Warmington will work to reverse the failures of our present governor.
