How to keep your property taxes from rising

The Republicans continue their fight to remove local control from municipalities in order to defund public schools. Property taxes are rising mainly because the Republican New Hampshire legislature continues giving tax breaks to the wealthy and expanding school vouchers while forcing local property taxpayers to carry the financial burden to pay the shortfall.

HB 1300, now voted into law, requires every community to vote on whether to adopt a school tax cap during the November 2026 and November 2028 general elections. Putting the tax cap on the ballot without explaining the consequences capitalizes on the public’s unhappiness with rising property taxes and jeopardizes public schools by removing local control from municipal budgets.

Don’t let the Republicans press you to stifle public education. Vote “NO” on the tax cap this November. The best way to stop your local property taxes from rising is to elect Democrats to the governorship, the executive council, and the legislature when you vote on Nov. 3.
