Planet Wokeness
A sad but predictable story unfolded in Cambridge last week. The Boston Herald posted a story on social media Thursday with a headline, “Man accused of sexually assaulting multiple people inside women’s locker room a Cambridge gym”. As soon as I saw that, my reaction to the story — as can be seen in the comments — was, “I bet it’s a Planet Fitness. A woman complained about men in her locker room in the Concord Planet Fitness and they kicked HER out of the club.” Sure enough, on Friday it was reported this was indeed a Planet Fitness.
The incident I referenced occured in May of this year. Judy Walcott, a member of Planet Fitness for over a decade, saw a man getting into the shower in the women’s locker room. When she complained to the staff, she was reportedly called “transphobic” and that she should leave and quit by staff, according to Walcott, so she left the gym. A few hours later according to Walcott, the assistant manager called her and told her her membership had been cancelled, and that her signature was forged on her cancellation paperwork.
Today, Wolcott is actively suing Planet Fitness, and I am sure lawyers for the victims of last week’s incident — at least one of them hospitalized according to the Herald — are gathering now. But no legal action can undo the psychological damage these policies invite upon female Planet Fitness’ members, unwittingly dragged into a needless culture war by a woke corporation.
