Rising prices
Recently WMUR reported that fuel and energy prices have increased significantly since the beginning of the Iran war. This war has raised prices for gas, diesel, heating oil and food.
If you drive a car, truck or semi-truck, you have witnessed the impact of the Iran war. As of September 2026 regular gasoline has increased over 40% and diesel has increased more than 60%. Filling up a medium size car will cost you at least $65. And filling the tank of a long-haul semi-truck will cost roughly $1,923. Higher diesel prices increase costs of cargo, farm goods and household items.
New Hampshire heating oil prices are averaging $5.70 to $6.00+ per gallon. Prior to the war, the price was approximately $3.90 per gallon. A family who paid $2,000 last year can expect to pay $2,800+ this winter.
The price of groceries has increased since the war. The Washington Post reported that the groceries hardest hit are: fresh produce, beef, select meats, coffee beans, vegetable oils and packaged goods. Bread and milk have also seen a price increase.
Everyday life has definitely become less affordable and much more chaotic.
As we go to vote on Nov. 3, we should think about whether the current administration has delivered on its promises. If not, then a change is needed nationally, statewide and locally.
