Two peas in a pod
On WMUR Channel 9, we are bombarded with negative ads. The worst is Gov. Kelly Ayotte’s portrayal of Cinde Warmington from 25 years ago, when she represented Purdue Pharma. When you are an attorney, you can sometimes be charged with representing some pretty shady characters. Ayotte herself represented a defendant in an armored car robbery in 1996. Can we then conclude that she supported armored car robberies?
In the ad, Warmington is quoted as having said in 2001 that Oxycontin was “a miracle drug.” Well, back then it was a miracle drug! My mother was prescribed Oxycontin in 2002 for repeated compression fractures; the relief from pain shown in her face. Does anyone really believe that Purdue Pharma disclosed outside its inner circle what it was learning in its labs — that Oxycontin was being found highly addictive?
Fast forward to 2007 and Ayotte is NH Attorney General. She refused to join multiple states, including all other New England states, in a lawsuit against Purdue Pharma. By then everyone knew that OxyContin was highly addictive. Add to that, she has received over $83,000 in campaign contributions from the broader opioid industry, including Purdue Pharma.
Ayotte and President Trump have a lot in common in claiming the moral high ground. Trump, who wants to make it impossible for anyone else to vote by mail, voted by mail twice this year. Although only Congress can do something about Trump right now; we can do something about Ayotte.
